There have been several cases recently of people neglecting their children?

In australia ( twins dying in QLD, 21 children from two different mothers taken into care after being found starving and suffering from Hypothermia ... for examples) .... why is this happening ..... and How can society fix this situation? There have been several cases recently of people neglecting their children?
There have been many changes in the Australian society over the last one or two decades that have allowed these terrible things to happen.

There was a time when you knew your neighbours and kids played in the neighbourhood together. Now neighbours don't know each other, so people can get away with neglecting children.

How do we fix it? Australians need to start being nicer to each other and get to know what is happening around them. This isn't something that can be fixed by the Government - we need to take on some responsibility ourselves. There have been several cases recently of people neglecting their children?
This is happening a lot in Japan (where I live as well). I think a lot of parents are overwhelmed, have mental problems or are having children irresponsibly and there is no family (not even a husband, wife, grandparent or sibling) around to help. People with mental problems are also running loose in society and reproducing in large numbers. A lot of grandparents don't even know about their own grandchildren (and some parents don't even know their kids even exist!)

I think the best way for society to help is to be more connected to people, know what is going on in the next door over, be observant and to know where to find help when they notice something isn't quite right. The more isolated people are from society, the more common these things are going to become. It really does take a village to raise, protect and teach a child.
Too many irresponsible pregnancies. Not enough adult parents and the 'family unit' doesn't hardly exist anymore. I worked with children for many years in a school system. The one thing I noticed was that the children of single parents were the ones hardest hit. The parent would either try to over compensate for the situation, therefore spoiling the child(no discipline at all). Or the parent was abusive because of the overwhelming stress of raising the child or children alone. Occaisionally, you would find abuse in 2 parent homes, but again many of those family units consisted of one parent being much older than the other or both parents being very young. I don't know the solution to the problem. Nothing that would be acceptable to everyone.
Unfortunately these problems are not new, infact they are a symptom of a much greater problem and that is man is in rebellion against the creator of the universe. It would be nice to think that everyone came from loving families and were well looked after but as you know this is not the case. Many people feel unloved at times by significant people in their families. If we surrendered to Christ then many of societies problems would be much less. One of our biggest problems in accepting the truth is our own foolish pride believing that we can fix society without God. Take him out of the picture and society will destroy itself.
It's been happening since the dawn of humanity. The thing is now it's being printed in newspapers and shown on the television, so we're more aware that it is happening.

It breaks my heart.

The first step, as a society, is admitting that our children are being neglected and abused. The second step is taking one case at a time (through legal means) to protect children who are born into abhorrent homes. The third step is committing the abusers to psychological institutes or prison to ensure they can never breed or abuse children again.

It's simple, unfortunately we often don't know it's happening until it's too late.
Fix the people that make babies and then don't look after children. That easy they should spay women and cut men that do this.

The police could also put leg brachclets on these people that leave kids alone for tracking purposes,

If you want to know about people please read the following book.

Remeber no one likes to be made to do things you need to get the other person to want to do this on her/ his own accord.

Raymond
Unfortunately we have become a very self centered society that go on with our day to day lives and don't seem to notice others in need of our help.

We also have lost a large amount of money that went into the welfare of children and the mentally ill.

It is so sad and it could happen in any street in Australia in fact it could be happening right now.

Another sad case on the news tonight Jenny.
Just think of how much money must have been flowing into that house by way of Govt handouts for SO many children.

What did the parents do with it given that the poor kids were so dishevelled and undernourished?

12 kids would attract at least $2000 approx per fortnight.

I'd love to be getting that much, Tax free, for working.

I pity the children and hope that they find good homes where they'll receive the love and care they deserve.
Personally I think people should have to have a license to breed. Seriously. And in order to get that license they should have to show that they can be responsible and look after children properly. Kind of tough, I know, but it would stop horrible situations like these happening!
The governments in this world is not as reliable as it was years ago. we need strong governments that pay more attention to what is really going on financial and in society instead of worrying about wars which they start and gas prices they raise.
Jenny, violations of the Children Protection Act are frequent in various advanced countries and modern societies, especially

those involving handicapped children...a visit in the Law Reports of any law librery witin reach will be proof enough...
Probably because there are people out there, who have no conscience at all. I have known, and heard of these people, very sad, but true.....Society cannot fix everything.

Poor children.
not a new thing, been happening forever. society can't stop it, it'll happen occasionally until the end of time.
